"A Rose for Viki"
Honoring the life of Viki Mitchell Newell by continuing her special gift of helping women who are in Cancer Treatment |
|
The original oil painting of "A Rose for Viki" was painted in memory of Viki Mitchell Newell, who lost her battle with recurring breast cancer in 2005.
To honor her life and occupation as a Master Cosmetologist, I have begun to volunteer for the "Look Good...Feel Better" program sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
My friend, Jo Pittman, states that "all women in cancer treatment need to feel special and pampered". This is what the "Look Good...Feel Better" program is all about. Read below for the details of this very worthy program.*
As a Master Cosmetologist, Viki helped many women with their hair, skin and nail problems, as a survivor of 10 years she knew first hand the problems that women face at a most difficult time in their lives.
It is my desire that 20% of the profits from the sale of this giclee be donated to the "Look Good...Feel Better",
program.
The giclee can be made into several sizes and printed on watercolor paper. The watercolor paper is 310gm paper, the ink very stable for a long time. My intent for this unique painting is to bring hope and peace to all who receive it.
Please take a moment to call or e-mail me about the giclee, and how your donation will be accounted for by the American Cancer Society.

*This program teaches women how to cope with the way their appearance changes while in cancer treatment. A two hour workshop is held by caring professionals teaching, "Look Good...Feel Better", techniques concerning hair loss, skin care, nail care and makeup. This program is a free service. A free complimentary makeup bag to be used during the workshop and taken home is donated by leading cosmetic companies.

Look Good…Feel Better is a free, non-medical, brand-neutral, national public service program founded in 1989 and supported by corporate donors to help women offset appearance-related changes from cancer treatment. There are now three versions:

Luzca Bien…Siéntase Mejor
Bilingual group programs (English and Spanish) for Hispanic women in 19 locations: Albuquerque, Austin, Brownsville (TX), Chicago, Dallas, Denver, El Paso, Fresno/Visalia (CA), Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Spanish language materials are available nationwide upon request.
Look Good…Feel Better for Teens
Group programs for teen girls and guys in 16 cities — Birmingham (AL), Boston, Columbus (OH), Denver, Gross Pointe Woods (MI), Los Angeles, Memphis (TN), Nashville, New Haven (CT), New York City, Palo Alto (CA), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh (PA), Rochester (MN), St. Louis, and Washington, D.C. — plus the 2bMe Web site with online demos and more.
Group Programs
Each two-hour, hands-on workshop includes a 12-step skin care/make-up application lesson, demonstration of options for dealing with hair loss, and nail care techniques. Held at comprehensive care clinics, hospitals, ACS offices, and community centers, local group programs are organized by the American Cancer Society, facilitated by LGFB-certified cosmetologists, and aided by general volunteers. Patients in various stages of treatment receive make-over tips and personal attention from professionals trained to meet their needs. They also use and take home complimentary cosmetic kits in their appropriate skin tones (light, medium, dark, extra dark) with helpful instruction booklets. Professional advice is provided on wigs, scarves and accessories. (Teen sessions also include social and health tips.) More than 50,000 individuals participate each year in small groups of five to ten, offering each patient a supportive circle, as well. Group programs represent the highest level of expertise available (the “gold standard”) in LGFB services. See Before/After for more information. Or find a local group program now.
